i read once that people really didn't care if they had a white christmas (a.k.a snow on christmas day) until Bing Crosby sang the song white christmas in the movie holiday inn & then people started looking forward to having one and getting annoyed when they don't get it.

i got a 6-month extension my paid account, thanks to that person! (not sure if they want to be named).

so, to celebrate i'm doing a random poll.

i've heard that people in the southern united states think of washington d.c as a northern city, and people in the northern united states see it as a southern city.

what say you?

do you like condiments, in general?

i'm sometimes reminded of this PSA-type commercial that ran during saturday morning cartoons (maybe on ABC) that warned against the over use of condiments; "don't drown your food, in ketchup, sauces, or goo."

also; are their foods that you don't put condiments on?

i just noticed on my calendar (have to get a 2017 one soon) that it doesn't have halloween listed on oct. 31, just a little drawing of a pumpkin. i looked at christmas, thanksgiving, veteran's day & they all have the holiday name listed.

the only thing i can figure is that some very religious person who worked on these things is so against halloween that they refused to put the name on the day, but still had to indicate the holiday.

ignoring, for the moment, the reported leaked plot of harry potter and the cursed child, are you interested in seeing the play/reading the book?

i had some vague interest in it at first, but now i'm very much in the indifferent camp. i think that the story ended long ago & there really is no reason to continue it.

on the other hand, i have a small interest in the fantastic beasts and where to find them movie(s).

anyway, my brother pointed out some years ago that. in general, the commercials for the olympics are of better quality than the ones for the superbowl. (which is the event for commercials) and i agree, the coke commercials are usually the best in the olympics.

wal-mart (and later super wal-mart) has been in my area since the early to mid 1990s, target since the 2000s sometime. i go to wal-mart on average once per week, i go to target maybe 2 or 3 times per year. i've bought all kinds of things from wal-mart; food, cleaning products, clothes & shoes. i buy few things from target; mostly food, once got some pillows & blankets. wal-mart is, let's face it, lower class. target is middle class. saw a thing on netflix about target that was on CNBC a few years ago that said they have trouble getting people to believe that the have competitive prices on things. well, i can believe that. they might be competitive on food, cleaning stuff & whatnot, but on clothes, shoes and household goods they don't seem to be. EDIT: also, target is so red. red shopping carts, red on the walls, giant red balls outside the store (WTF are those things for?) and the workers wear red shirts. (that must bug the star trek fans) frankly, all that red puts me off..

disclaimer: i have not seen any of the new bond movies, i'm just going on trailers, clips & a bit i've seen on tv)

even if i didn't disagree with the latest bond actor, i don't like where the series is going. please refer to the latest trailer for skyfall.
they might as well remove all references to the bond novels & movies and rename the series british secret agent or something. but then they'd have to start from scratch.

1. they are going to get into bond's "troubled psyche" (i read that somewhere)
2. they are bringing back the gadgets & Q, who seems to be barely 30. so when & if he chides bond about never bringing anything back in once piece, he might sound whiny. IMHO.
3. is there any humor in these things? craig seems very un-humorous to me.
4. is it just me,or does it seem (by the longer or international trailer that they're going to bump off M? since there's rumors that this is dench's last go in the role, it would make sense. if she is out who should replace her?

my brother & i often ague over what constitutes a coat.

he says it the thickness of the garment. long or short, it doesn't matter.

i say it's the length. it has to come down to your knees, or at least mid-thigh, that's a coat.
if it's at your hip area or just below your butt, it's a jacket. if it's a lighter material; that's a "light jacket." if it's thick & heavy; that's a "heavy jacket."

an exchange over spoilers got me thinking about the possible time limit on them. is it OK to discuss a movie or tv show from 10 or 15 year "out in the open" when there's a chance that there's someone watching it (or wants to) who was too young at the time, or not even born yet, is reading it?
about 6 or 7 years ago i read some article an entertainment reporter wrote discussing the fact that he got an angry letter over a previous article were he talked about who killed laura palmer in twin peaks. the entertainment reporter thought he was safe from cries of "spoiler!" because by that time, the show had been off the air for over a decade. the person writing the letter had been too young to watch it at the time & was either watching it then or was planning to.

for some reason i was thinking about politics & i remember the big stink about sara palin not having a passport. i recall thinking at the time; so what? i don't have one. no one i know has one. i bet most americans don't have one. was it because if she became vice president she'd have to travel outside of the u.s.?

i suppose more americans have one now that you need it for canada & mexico. not to get in but to get back out apparently. which makes me wonder if you'd have more stamps for returns than leaving. and then last year the price trippled because of some new fancy microchips in them or something. which doesn't help with my dream to see something of europe some day.
