my brother & i are watching this program on netflix streaming called WW2 in HD. they found color film from the various conflicts that made up the war (from both sides), put in in HD & paired it with actor voice-overs reading letters/journal entries of people who where there & in two cases interview the actual people. (there's some stuff from radio broadcasts from roosevelt & churchill too)
it got us to thinking about some things;

1. we think that hitler would've eventually have gotten rid of mussolini & taken over italy. we think he might have gotten into the rest of scandinavia & maybe even switzerland too.

2. documents were found that hitler planned to eventually invade south america. how did he think think he could control such a far-reaching empire? (because that's what it would've been) through fear? getting enough people to come around to his way of thinking?
my brother figured that if he did get into south america, he would've eventually moved up though central america & mexico to get into the US and canada.

3. if hitler kept on taking over country after country he would've eventually butted heads with japan. (who was doing the same in the far east) that would've been some clash. germany's army/air force vs. japan's navy. what would've been the result? mutual destruction? or would they have knocked out enough of each others forces to enable the resistance fgroups in the countries that they had taken over to rise up & finish the job?

Re 1., he did take over some of Italy, the city where my grandparents were born, Gaeta. Gaeta overlooks the Bay of Naples, and is the place where you want to put artillery to guard it; the Nazis took it over, kicked out the citizens or put them into camps, and stayed there for years until chased out by the Allied troops. (For which reason I'm not able to track family history past a certain point because they weren't great at keeping ancient records in one piece.)

I have heard something of Nazis in Greece, too, but I have no immediate knowledge.
