the first perry mason TV movie was in 1985 & was titled perry mason returns (what else?) there were about 25, the last in 1993 done not long before raymond burr passed on. i don't count the INO (in name only) mason movies the network did after he passed to try to keep the series going. my brother has put all of them (the burr ones) on our netflix instant watch list. i don't know what possessed him, neither does he.
they are quite the 1980s movies (well the first 4 or 5 we've seen) '80s clothes, hair & actors that you've barely heard from since then. including william katt as mason's private investigator he calls in to help on cases. katt was quite the man of action in these, more so than in the greatest american hero. running, fighting, sliding under closing garage doors & going kung-fu on a pimp. he was only in the first 8 (according to wikipedia) & was replaced by william r. moses as a law student who works with mason investigating his cases. i never did warm up to that character.
my mother had heard that they started making these because barbra hale needed money. my brother said; "shouldn't she have had enough money by the 10th one?" of course, more is often better when it comes to money. especially if you're living in california.
FYI katt was the real-life son of barbra hale who played della. that explains the fond looks he gives her now and then.
