RPF (Oliver Belmont) & a fill

archersangelOliver Belmont felt like he had been in love with Alva Vanderbilt for most of his life. Of course everyone in New York City knew about her; going against the Mrs. Astor and becoming one of the leading figures in Society, that she was one the people instrumental in founding the Metropolitan Opera when she could not get a box at the Academy of Music; that old, crumbling, faded institution. As well as her house building projects. It didn't help that he was about 5 years younger, at times it made him feel like a lovesick schoolboy.
Unfortunately, Alva was married to one of Oliver's friends; William K. Vanderbilt. But it gave him an excuse to see her at parties and dinners. They would exchange pleasantries & make a comment about the weather, he would inquire about her children, then they would part to talk to other people.
But lately he noticed that she would linger after their brief conversations, inquiring about his siblings, or the the most recent race a horse of his was in. She even suggested that he join her and William aboard their yacht some afternoon. Oliver dared not allow himself to think that she might feel the same for him as he did for her, but started to have hope.
