1. How did you find Dreamwidth? What attracted you to this platform? Why did you start blogging?
i think i was commenting with an open-id thing on livejournal & saw people taking about this new DW thing. i followed some sg-1 people over & was commenting anonymously or with the open-id & [personal profile] zats_clear was like; "hey! do you want a invite code?" (in the early days they had codes so a bunch of people couldn't sign up at once. i think that's why.) i was like: "sure." and here i am.

2. How long have you been blogging on Dreamwidth? What has changed here, or in your life, over that timespan?
since july 2009, it will be 14 years this year.
i don't talk about personal stuff, usually. but i had lost my mom in 2008 (before DW obviously) and was still dealing with that. and then lost my dad in june 2016.

3. What are your favorite things about Dreamwidth? What do you dislike about it? What do you wish it had, or had more of?
i think DW has more icons for paid accounts than LJ.
i wish you could choose the 15 icons you can use when a blog reverts back to free.

4. Do you think people should crosspost the same or similar things in more than one place on Dreamwidth? Why or why not? Are there conditions that influence whether or not it's a good idea?
it's up to the poster, of course. i crossposted from DW to LJ because i didn't want people to feel they have to join a new thing to read stuff. now, i do it because of habit.
but some things are DW or LJ related (like this) so they won't get crossposted.

5. Do you have a free account or a paid account on Dreamwidth? What features or other factors made you choose that option? Would you recommend your option to other bloggers? Why or why not?
currently it's a paid account, thanks to an anonymous donation of points. in july, it will go back to free.
when i had the paid option it was for more icons & the ability to make polls.

6. What is your blog metaphor? Where are you, when you are in your blog?
i don't really understand these questions. my blog is 90% random thoughts & pointing to things that i think are interesting.

7 - What tools do you use for blogging? Laptop, desktop computer, or other device? Paper notebook for jotting down ideas? Color palettes, accessibility gauges, or other guides for making it look good?
originally started on a desktop & now use a laptop.
posting ideas (like for frivolous february) are sometimes written on scrap-paper.

8 - How often do you post in your blog? Do you like reading blogs that are high or low in traffic?
it varies. it could be 3-4 times a week, it could be 3-4 times a month. 3-sentence fic season is a busy time.
i like blogs that are low-ish in traffic. 2 times a week is good.

9 - What are the top ten topics in your blog? You can use the Manage Tags function to sort by usage and see which ones you use most often, or just think about what you consider important subjects.
books has 122, but that's not all about what i'm reading or have read. if a question in the friday 5 is about books i use that tag, likewise with memes.
the same with tv that has 160 & star trek that 118.
pointing has 240, that's what i use to "point" towards an interesting article or post.

10 - What types or topics of posts get the most enthusiastic responses from your readership? What do you think makes those so engaging?
i don't get many comments, but sometimes book posts get a couple.

11 - Do you use any recurring posts, and if so, what kinds? Do you enjoy reading those in other people's blogs? Why or why not?
the closest is probably the friday 5 ones. but i only do the ones that seem interesting to me.

12 - Do you ever go back to reread older entries on your blog, or other blogs? Do you get or give comments on older entries? What kind of posts do you put in your Memories?
sometimes. like the 3-sentence fic ones or just look at a few from a random tag.
i don't leave comments in old posts or put stuff in memories.

13 - Where do you find ideas for blog posts? What inspires you?
random thoughts, dreams, some tv show, movie or book, memes like this.

14 - Do you use your blog for personal, hobby, or professional purposes? Do you mix those or keep them separate, and why? Do you like to talk about yourself in your blog, or do you prefer to post about other people and events instead?
personal. i mostly talk about what i'm doing, watching & reading. sometimes what other people have done.

15 - Do you follow any blogging guidelines? What do you make a point of doing, or not doing, in your blog?
i don't do 2 posts in one day.

16 - What are some things that you haven't tried in your blog, but would like to try? What cool things have you seen in other blogs that you haven't done yourself? What things have you tried that totally flopped? Try something new today!
there's nothing new i want to try.
long ago i changed some colors in a blog theme (like text), but i've had this theme for ages because i wanted to use a header picture, which not all themes allow and i didn't want to bother looking for others that did.

18 - Which blogs or communities do you read most often? What makes these your favorites?
probably the friday 5, that's the one i'm subscribed to gets a lot of posts. maybe the books ones too.
