Elliot Carver falling off of his & yacht at sea and presumed dead gave rise to several. Partying with highly-place people, designer drugs, & prostitutes. The stories make the rounds of pubs, news stands & chip shops.

Bond in an old Barbour jacket with the collar turned up & a tweed flat cap pulled low on his forehead always reacted with surprise at the stories and added fuel to the fire; "Really? Well, the way I heard it...."
