random things

i rarely use those self-check out this at the grocery store because they're often a PITA, but since there were long long lines in the regular ones the other day i gave it a shot. this particular one had a conveyer belt to take stuff down to the end of the counter. (where they all pile up if you don't go and bag them.) so i'm scanning stuff, setting it on the belt & the thing says "please place item on the belt" while said item is on it's merry way to the end of the counter. i grumble; "i did, you moron."
apparently i'm not the only one who talks to these things. as i was going out with my bags i passed another self-serve checkout, it said to the man scanning stuff: "please stand by. help is on the way." he growled at it: "i don't need any damn help."
they're really pushing nashville (the show) on TV. calling it the #1 new show and it's not even airing yet (well by the time you read this it will) it seems to me that they more they advertise for a show the more likely it will be a flop. the event on ABC & the cape on NBC both fall into this category.
speaking of nashville, i noticed that one guy that the young blond up & coming singer is hitting on looked familiar. then i realized it was chip esten from who's line is it anyway? (both the UK & US versions) he's acting under the name charles eston. if you've seen who's line, then you know that he can handle the singing. and according to imdb.com is was in an episode of DS9 & VOY. huh.
