I have myself, my daughter, and two grandkids on my phone plan. It's simply not reasonable to buy four new phones every two years. We replace when the manufacturer stops sending software / android updates, or something happens that causes the phone to actually need to be replaced.

I'm glad you had a warranty for the case and even happier that it wasn't your phone!
