the what ifs/if onlys of history
Jul. 30th, 2011 02:19 pmi just finished reading king, kaiser, tsar: three royal cousins who led the world to war by catrine clay about what lead to world war one. and it isn't one thing or five, it's dozens. maybe hundreds of big and little things over decades. it's easy to point to the assassination of archduke ferdinand and say "that was it!" but that was just the straw that broke the camel's back. so to speak. if germany wasn't a supporter of austria-hungary, it might have been just between austria-hungary & serbia.
( what if.... )
also you could argue (& some have) that world war one lead to the second one because of how germany had to pay the most in reparations to the allies. ironic, considering what they had done to denmark.
