friday 5: high school
1. If you were a girl in the 70’s in the U.S., you were expected to take Home Ec. in high school. Did you and what did you take from the class, if anything? If you are a guy, would you have liked to have had the option of taking it?
i was in high school later (never mind how much later) & home ec. was an optional class for girls & guys. my freshman year there were no guys & sophomore year there was 1 guy. i stopped taking home ec. because the teacher i had that year (there were 2) didn't like me & i was afraid i'd get her again, so i don't know if there were any guys beyond that.
2. How were your school lunches?
crappy, for the most part. you could buy a little cardboard basket fro french fries for like $2.00, i never did though. we had a basic salad bar (lettuce, ham, turkey, shredded cheese, carrots, 2-3 dressing & croutons plus the cut up lefter over grilled cheese sandwiches they'd sometimes had.) & i like the pizza burgers which was ground beef cooked & chopped up in pizza sauce, put on burger buns, topped with shredded mozzarella cheese & toasted.
3. Did you walk, take a bus, or have someone drive you to school?
bus.
4. Were there any classes there were off limits to you because of your sex?
no. wood & metal shop classes where mostly guys though. my brother recalls one girl in one or the other, he forgets which.
5. Looking back on it now, what was the biggest life lesson you took from high school?
i don't know if there was one for me.
see what others said over here.

We could buy fast food for lunch! McDonald's one day a week, Taco Bell another, and so on. Never liked Mickey D's, but I liked some of the others at the time.

supposedly mcdonald's would deliver, if you bought meals for 15 people. but the kids who either had enough money, or could pool it together from their friends, never got enough people together to do it.
