I enjoyed The Marvels. Not perfect, but fun. I don't think it got a lot of promotion due to the writer/actor strike right as it was being released. I barely recall seeing an advertisement for it, and I was looking. There there are the neckbeards who are going to hate it no matter what, and they get more attention than any positive news.
disney/marvel should've waited a few more years before doing more MCU stuff, or just the tv series, and certainly not something where you have to watch EVERYTHING to understand what is going on.
The MCU becoming one big ongoing story was such a Big Thing, I don't think TPTB saw the potential for burnout after a decade of hits. Not to mention the possibility that they'd put all their eggs in one basket. So now we have the actor portraying Kang in legal trouble and TPTB are scrambling to figure out what to do. Recast or redirect the storyline altogether? Take a wrong turn in the plot arc and where do you go from there? Apparently right where we are, because it seems the more casual viewers were done after Endgame.
I was totally expecting the build up to a Young Avengers storyline. We have most established on screen, but nothing seems to be happening on that front.
